JANUARY IN MADONNA HISTORY:
  • January, 1996 - Rehearsals, wardrobe fittings, camera tests, and other pre-production gets underway for EVITA. Madonna meets with people who knew Evita, including Argentine President Carlos Menem, who ultimately offered his support for the project.
  • January, 1997 - The web site THE MADONNA CATALOG is officially launched from Billerica, Massachusetts
  • January 1, 1997 - Special sneak-preview screening of EVITA in Boston, Massachusetts.
  • January 1, 2000 - Madonna spent a festive New Year's Eve partying in Miami at her pal Donatella Versace's mansion. She was in good company with beau Guy Ritchie, Rupert Everett, Gwenyth Paltrow, and Ingrid Cesares.
  • January 5, 1989 - After 1,239 days (about 3-1/3 years) of marriage, Madonna files for divorce from Sean Penn. Penn got the Malibu house and Madonna bought out his half of the Manhattan apartment, which amounted to nearly half a million dollars.
  • January 5, 2006 - Madonna to appear on the cover of USA magazine ELLE
  • January 6, 2000 - It's announced that Madonna will be performing "American Pie" at the Super Bowl XXXIV pregame show at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on January 30th (however her performance was cancelled on January 11th due to a recording schedule conflict)
  • January 7-10, 1998: Madonna shoots the music video for "Frozen" with director Chris Cunningham at Cuddeback Dry Lake Bed in Indian Wells Valley region of Ridgecrest, California.
  • January 8, 1983 - Madonna's first single "Everybody" peaks at #3 on the dance chart.
  • January 8, 1988 - "Spotlight" enters the Billboard singles chart, based solely on airplay (it was not released as a single)
  • January 9, 1997 - Madonna appears on the Rosie O'Donnell Show.
  • January 10, 1985 - The music video for "Material Girl" is shot at Renmar Studio in Hollywood. It is on the set of this video that she would meet her future husband Sean Penn, whom she would marry 7 months later. On January 5th, 1989 (four years minus 5 days after they met), Madonna filed for divorce (see above).
  • January 10, 1990 - Madonna holds auditions for "fierce male dancers" for the Blond Ambition Tour.
  • January 10, 1997 - "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" enters the Billboard singles chart.
  • January 11, 2001 - VH-1 airs an episode about Madonna called "How Far Is Too Far"
  • January 12, 2000 - Madonna implements a change in representation. She signs on with United Talent Agency and will no longer be represented by Creative Artists Agency, effective immediately.
  • January 14, 1984 - Madonna performs "Holiday" on American Bandstand, hosted by Dick Clark, and she tells him that her dream is "To rule the world"
  • January 15, 1993 - The film BODY OF EVIDENCE is released in the USA
  • January 15, 2005 - Madonna performs "Imagine" from London to help raise money for TSUNAMI AID
  • January 16, 1993 - Madonna appears on Saturday Night Live and sings three songs ("Happy Innaguration Mr. President", "Fever", and "Bad Girl" - the performance of "Fever" is available on an official DVD compilation put put by SNL.
  • January 16, 2001 - the USA CD maxi-single for "Don't Tell Me" is released.
  • January 17-18, 2006 - Madonna shoots the music video for "Sorry" in London
  • January 18, 1991 - "Rescue Me" is issued to radio stations.
  • January 19, 1997 - Madonna receives a Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a musical for EVITA
  • January 18, 1999 - Madonna appears on LARRY KING LIVE for an exclusive interview.
  • January 18, 2000 - The Lakeshore/Paramount website for "The Next Best Thing" launches a new page where fans can submit their questions for Madonna.
  • January 20, 1984 - The "Holiday" single peaks at #15 on the Billboard singles chart. It spent a total of 8 weeks on the chart.
  • January 21, 1993 - The film BODY OF EVIDENCE is released in Australia
  • January 22, 1988 - "Spotlight" peaks at #31 on the Billboard singles chart, based solely on airplay.
  • January 23, 1987 - "Open Your Heart" peaks at #1 (spends 2 weeks there) on the Billboard singles chart.
  • January 23, 1998 - The "Frozen" single is released to international radio.
  • January 23, 2000 - The 57th Annual Golden Globe Awards airs - Madonna and William Orbit are nominated for Best Original Song from a Motion Picture for Beautiful Stranger.
  • January 24, 1998 - The "Frozen" USA maxi-single is released.
  • January 24, 2004 - Madonna flies to Cannes, France, and is presented with an achievement award during the NRJ Awards ceremony.
  • January 24, 2006 - Release date for the CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR vinyl LP
  • January 26, 1984 - Madonna appears on Tops Of The Pops (Cyndi Lauper appeared on this same show)
  • January 27, 1987 - Madonna is the American Music Awards Winner for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Video Artist
  • January 28, 1985 - Madonna attends the 1985 American Music Awards with Jellybean Benitez. She wins the "Favorite Female Artist" award.
  • January 28, 1991 - Madonna is the American Music Awards Winner for Favorite Dance Single "Vogue"
  • January 29, 1993 - "Deeper And Deeper" peaks at #1 (stays there for 1 week) on the Billboard singles chart.
  • January 30, 1990 - The "Keep It Together" USA maxi-single is released.
  • January 30, 1995 - Madonna performs "Take A Bow" with Babyface at the 1995 American Music Awards.
  • January 30, 1998 - Street date for the March issue of Q magazine with Madonna cover story.
  • January 30, 2000 - Madonna's scheduled performance of "American Pie" during the Super Bowl XXXIV preshow, which was cancelled due to a recording schedule conflict
  • January 30, 2004 - Madonna.com releases a limited edition photo book called "Nobody Knows Me"
